About Us
Beginning 39 years ago, our president, Stuart Muche, founded a community-focused company with the basic principle that, “No project is complete until the client is completely satisfied and comfortable recommending us to their family and friends.” This client-centered focus has allowed Stuart’s Landscaping & Garden Centers to grow from a single location/crew in 1986 to an industry leader with three locations serving all the Fox Valley, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and surrounding areas. Stuart’s success stems from the dedication we give to our clients and the satisfaction we bring to each of them.
Stuart Muche founded Stuart’s Landscaping in the spring of 1986. At that time Stuart was operating out of a 240 square-foot garage with just a 1979 pickup truck, a wheelbarrow, and a couple of hand tools.
In July of 1986 less than one mile from that shed, Stuart and his wife, Linda, purchased 60 acres of land, with a house, a pole building, a farm tractor, a lawn tractor, and more miscellaneous hand tools. For the first ten years after the 60 acres was purchased, Stuart’s Landscaping office headquarters were located inside the family garage. Stuart, Linda, and their family still reside on those 60 acres today.
Stuart started by maintaining and installing landscapes for just a few area residents, completing most of the projects by the means of his own ability and a little help from friends or family members.
In 1996 Stuart’s added a full service retail center by purchasing the former “Gudmundsons’ Landscape Nursery” at N7820 Lakeshore Drive in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
In 2000 Stuart’s purchased Bartz Nursery in Ripon, Wisconsin, which was a well established nursery that grew some of the area’s finest quality ornamental and shade trees. This acquisition enabled Stuart’s Landscaping to expand their production of quality trees and deliver them to the public for the best value found anywhere.
In 2006 Stuart’s ventured to the Oshkosh and Neenah-Menasha area with the purchase of “Gro Plant.” This allowed us to start growing our own annuals every season. Stuart’s operated this Garden Center for 14 years. Currently we no longer have the Garden Center there, but have 3 Construction Crews and 1 Maintenance Crew running out of this location.
In 2014, our Green Lake location underwent a renovation to create a more functional facility in a growing community with a demand for quality landscape materials. This upgrade included a new office building and a state-of-the-art greenhouse, enhancing both our operations and overall shopping experience. These improvements allow us to better serve the area with top-quality plants and products to beautify local landscapes.
In 2017, our Fond du Lac location embarked on a multi-year renovation project aimed at enhancing both our operations and customer experience. This extensive upgrade included the construction of a large shop to efficiently maintain our equipment, a new office building designed to provide our employees with a productive workspace, and a state-of-the-art greenhouse. The addition of this modern greenhouse not only elevates the shopping experience for our customers but also enables us to offer an exceptional selection of high-quality plant material. Through these improvements, we continue to uphold our commitment to excellence in both service and product offerings.
In 2021, Stuart’s acquired a property in Rosendale to expand our tree farm operations. This strategic investment allows us to enhance our selection of top-quality ornamental and shade trees, ensuring we continue to provide the finest specimens for our customers. Through this expansion, we are committed to growing a diverse and superior inventory while maintaining the highest standards of excellence in tree cultivation. This is now our only Tree Farm we currently operate out of.
Today, Stuart’s Landscaping serves the entire Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Fox Valley area, with a radius of over 60 miles. Stuart’s employs over 100 people during peak season and completes over 2,000 projects per year.
As the Landscape Construction, Garden Center, and Tree Farm divisions continued to grow, so did the need for a well-rounded Maintenance Division. Today, Stuart’s is proud to offer a full-range, year-round Landscape Maintenance Service to protect and enhance one of the best investments you can ever make. Stuart’s is continually making changes to improve in efficiency, remain competitive in our industry and most important, better serve your needs.
